Some of the key proposals impacting on our area include:
- an inbound Bus Gate (at the junction of Olney Grove), which will restrict northbound general traffic on Templeogue Road from accessing Terenure Road West or Terenure Place from 6 am to 8 pm - 7 days a week.
- a two way Bus Gate at Rathmines Road (entrance to St Mary's school) which will restrict traffic from 6am to 8pm - 7 days a week
- right turn bans are proposed from Templeogue Road to Rathdown Park and to Rathdown Avenue which will make Bushy Park inaccessible to vehicular traffic.
- right turn bans are proposed from Fortfield Road to Greenlea Road and to Lavarna Grove - this will have a knock on affect and will potentially increase traffic on side roads such as Wainsfort Grove and Wainsfort Park.

30 March 2023 Build to rent proposed development on Fortfield Road/Terenure College
By way of update on the proposed housing development on lands in Terenure College, the appeal by the developers to An Board Pleanála was unsuccessful and the planning application was refused on three main grounds which are summarised as follows:
- The Board considered that it has not been demonstrated that the site is not needed for its established educational and recreational use.
- The proposed development would involve the construction of housing on lands partially in Flood Risk Zone B, as set out in the Planning System and Flood Risk Management for Planning Authorities.
- The density of the proposed development exceeds that recommended for outer suburbs in the Dublin City Development Plan 2022-2028.
Further details are available on DCC website at Citizen Portal Planning (agileapplications.ie)

We now understand via recent media articles (see link to Irish times article below) that the developers have challenged the Dublin City Council decision via a judicial review action. We will keep you up to date when further details on how this is progressing are available.

10th May, 2022 Planning Proposals for Site at Terenure College
A pre-planning Large Scale Residential Development (LRD) application has been made to Dublin City Council (Reference LDR6004/22) for buy-to-let apartments on Fortfield Road (4 x 7 stories of 384 apartments). This is on lands belonging to Terenure College in the vicinity of the Greenlea Road/Fortfield Road junction. The Council must meet to discuss the application within 4 weeks of receipt and must issue their opinion within 4 weeks from the date of the LRD meeting. The developer then has 6 months during which they can make a full planning application. A similar planning proposal has been made in respect of apartments at the site of Carlisle Gym on Kimmage Road West. Given the scale of the proposed Terenure College development, the residents association will be monitoring progress relating to the application and would welcome any views from residents.

2nd December, 2020 Bus Connects Update
The National Transport Authority (NTA) have published its final plans for bus corridors in Dublin and are inviting submissions until 16 December. Details of the proposals can be accessed this link https://busconnects.ie/initiatives/core-bus-corridor/
Of particular interest to our area is the Kimmage to City Centre route https://busconnects.ie/media/2168/11-kimmage-to-cc-preferred-route-101120-fa-web.pdf. The proposal includes plans to locate a 24/7 bus gate on Kimmage Road Lower between the junction of Ravensdale Park through to Sundrive junction, having the effect of no general traffic along that section of road.
There will be no access (except for cyclists) to Poddle Park from Ravensdale Park. Derravaragh Road will also be closed to through traffic. General traffic heading into town will be encouraged to turn left at the KCR down Kimmage Road West or left at Ravensdale Park towards Stanaway Road.
Also of interest is the proposal for the Tallaght to Terenure route https://busconnects.ie/media/2096/10-tallaght-to-terenure-preferred-route-301020fa-web.pdf which includes a proposal for a bus gate on Templeogue Road at the junction with Olney Grove so there will be no through traffic (except for busses) into Terenure Village. Traffic travelling inbound into town will be encouraged to divert at the junction with Springfield Road towards Rathfarnham or at Templeogue Bridge, again towards Rathfarnham.
Written submissions can be made by email to [email protected] or by post to Bus Connects Core Bus Corridor, National Transport Authority, Dún Scéine, Harcourt Lane, Dublin 2 before the 16 December deadline.
Separately, the final proposals for the redesign of the Dublin Bus Network has now been published.
There have been a few changes from the original plans and the table below sets out the proposals for our immediate area. While there were originally plans to cease the current 15A route, this will now continue to run from Ringsend to Limekiln (it will be called route 81) and will also serve St Stephens Green.
The 54A (renamed F1 route) will now run every 15 minutes which is a welcome development. It will run from Tallaght to Finglas via Firhouse, Templeogue Bridge, Fortfield Road, Clanbrassil Street, City Centre.
Terenure Village will be served by the A spine running from Swords to Terenure Cross via Drumcondra, O’Connell Street, Georges Street, Rathmines and Rathgar. From Terenure Cross Roads, the A spine splits into 4 routes (A1, A2, A3 and A4).

18th March, 2020 COVID 19
We have been asked to circulate the attached list of COVID 19 volunteers that has been compiled by 'I love Terenure 2030'. These volunteers are available to assist those in need of help during the current crisis (collecting groceries or perscriptions, dog walking, putting out bins etc). Further details are at this link https://sites.google.com/view/iloveterenure/help. A number of the roads in our residents association area have been included (search under Terenure). If you could pass details on to anyone you know that needs assistance, that would be appreciated. Should you wish to be included on this list as a volunteer, please text, call or whats app your details to 087 202 8833.
More generally, if you know people in your community who may be vulnerable and can contact them safely (e.g. via phone call, text, drop note into door), just let them know that your are available and can assist with shopping etc. However the advice is not to assume that someone needs help or call directly to someone's house unannounced as some people may be anxious about making face to face contact, particularly if they have a medical condition or are living alone. Volunteers should practice social distancing and personal hygeine - guidelines can be found on hse website.

- A whatsapp group has been set up by residents for Wainsort Park/Grove to reach out to neighbours on those roads. If you are interested in joining, text or whatsapp Ciara at 086 3193034.
- Additionally we have been advised that the Scout leaders from the Scouts Den on Greenlea Road are also available to help those in need and can be contacted via email at [email protected]
- Finally we have been made aware of suspicious door to door callers on College Park in the past few days so again would remind residents to be vigilant at all times and especially when answering the door.

20 November, 2019 NTA Bus Connects Consultation
Following on from the public consultation on the initial redesign of the bus routes proposed under the Bus Connects initiative, the National Transport Authority has published details of the revised bus network. Householders should have received a brochure in the past few weeks from the NTA outlining the details which are also on their website at this link. Full details of all of the updated proposals are available on busconnects.ie. specifically, the Knocklyon, Rathfarnham, Templeogue, Terenure areas are covered at https://busconnects.ie/media/1700/rathfarnham-accordian-leaflet-260919-fa.html.
We would recommend you examine these new proposals. Based on our understanding of the information provided by the various maps and publications we have provided a synopsis below. The NTA are accepting submissions on the new proposals up to Tuesday 3 December. These can be made by emailing [email protected].
The No. 9 will become the F3 – this route will remain much the same as it currently runs. Coming from Kimmage Road, it will continue down Kimmage Road West to Cromwellsfort Road, St Peter's Road and St James's Road. However going in the opposite direction it will no longer provide a direct service to DCU.
The No. 54A will become the FI – the time frequency will be increased to every 10/15 minutes. Coming from Kimmage Road, it will continue on Fortfield Avenue and Cypress Grove through Firhouse Road, Ballycullen Road and Drive, then on to Old Bawn Road in Tallaght. (It will no longer travel past the roundabout in Templeville towards Wellington Lane and the Spawell and it will no longer directly service Tallaght hospital rather it will finish at the Square shopping centre).
The 150 will become the F2 – coming from Kimmage, it will proceed up Whitehall Road, across Templeville Road and on to Wellington Lane. The main change is that it will go into town via Lr Kimmage Road rather than via Crumlin Village.
The 17 will become the S4 – This will continue to service UCD but will travel via the KCR to Rathgar rather than the current route of past Nutgrove Shopping Centre and via Dundrum. Going in the other direction, it will continue out to Liffey Valley.
The main change is to the existing No. 15A bus that links the KCR with Terenure, Rathgar and Rathmines. This will now become the No. 15 bus, it will run every 20-25 minutes and will travel from Limekiln Road to Mountjoy Square via Crumlin Village and Sundrive Road, Kenilworth Road and coming out at Rathmines Garda Station. This means that it will no longer be possible to get a bus from the KCR directly to Rathmines -you will have to change bus in Rathgar or Terenure.
The NTA has also provided an online tool which facilitates searching different routes at https://routemapper.busconnects.ie/route-mapper so if you input your start point and where you are going it will advise on the various options that will be available under the new proposals.

06 February, 2019 BusConnects - Traffic proposals
The consultation process on how the proposed BusConnects has begun. Proposals on how BusConnects will impact on car traffic have been put forward by the NTA. Should the proposals be adopted, the biggest impact on traffic in our area will come from the proposal to prevent traffic from entering Terenure village via Templeogue Road. This will mean that traffic coming from Tallaght direction heading towards Terenure or beyond will either be allowed to turn right past Springfield Road and then left at Rathfarnham Bridge or turn left at Cyprus Grove Road, proceed down Wainsfort Road and then proceed straight towards Kimmage if heading towards the city centre, or turn right at some stage if heading towards Terenure.
These changes may result in a huge increase in the volume of traffic passing down Wainsfort Road, in addition to the potential increases for more minor roads drivers may use such routes to access Terenure village. Access routes to the city centre are also likely to change as it is proposed that traffic approaching town from Kimmage Road Lower will no longer be allowed to go straight ahead at the junction with Sundrive Road.
All residents are being urged to examine the proposals for themselves and assess any impact they may have on the quality of life for those living in our area. The project website is www.busconnects.ie where you can search for the Core Bus Corridor project. The advice is that individual submissions will have far greater influence on the outcome, so individual households are urged to make submissions as they see fit. All submissions must be made before March 29th, 2019.
An extension of the Metro to our area would be hugely beneficial and residents are asked to contact local TD's to push for this. There is also an online petition for the Metro plans to be extended to service Terenure at Sign the Petition if residents wish to add their support.
31 January, 2019 PUBLIC MEETING
New Bus Corridors Proposal
How will this affect You?
Saturday 2nd February 2019 (11.30am – 1pm)
St. Joseph’s Parish Hall, Beechlawn Way, Terenure.
This week the National Transport Authority (NTA) announced Phase 2 of the Bus Corridor Project. Councillor Anne Feeney is hosting a Public Meeting to give people an opportunity to hear a short presentation on the proposals and to discuss the impact for our area.
Rathfarnham to City Centre
Tallaght to Terenure
Kimmage to City Centre
Many residents are extremely concerned about these proposals, particularly the restrictions to cars on the main thoroughfares to the city and the consequent likelihood of many local residential roads being turned into “rat-runs” by the traffic diverted from main roads. There are also concerns about the extensive property compulsory purchase orders (CPOs) on roads such as Lower Kimmage Road, Terenure Road East, Rathgar Road and Rathfarnham Road.
Information on the Bus Corridors and the NTA’s consultation process can now be viewed on www.busconnects.ie.

07 October, 2018 Bus Connects Submission From Residents Association
A submission has been made regarding the proposed 'Bus Connect' service on behalf of College and Wainsfort Residents Association.
With regard to the bus route changes residents expressed their feelings over two routes namely the 15a and the 54a, which formed part of the submission.
Disappointment was expressed at the decision to scrap the 15a service, which currently connects Terenure to Rathmines. Residents using this service will instead have to change in Rathgar under the new proposals.Unhappiness was also expressed at the proposal to end the 54a service at the Spawell, meaning residents from this area will need to get a second bus to Tallaght/The Square/Tallaght Hospital.
The submission also expressed concern about the size of the bus shelters along proposed routes and the proposed changes routes currently used by private cars.

24th August, 2018 Bus Connects Consultation Process - Information Update
A public consultation on the new ‘Bus Connect’ proposal which is a major re-design of the Dublin bus service is currently underway. Local Information meeting will take place on Wednesday, 29th August in Ashleaf Shopping and on Friday 7th September in Rathfarnham Shopping Centre. These are run by the National Transport Authority.
It is envisaged that there will be major changes to the current bus routes. Some of the proposals that will affect our immediate area include:
Tallaght to Terenure
Templeogue Road would become one-way outbound for general traffic while permitting taxis, buses and bicycles to travel in both directions. Inbound general traffic would divert via Cypress Grove Road and Wainsfort Road towards the KCR or via Springfield Road to Rathfarnham Road.
Kimmage to city centre
Kimmage Road Lower between Sundrive Road and Harold’s Cross would be limited to buses, bicycles and taxis. Through traffic would be diverted via Larkfield Park and Harold’s Cross Road or via Sundrive Road and Clogher Road.
Rathfarnham to city centre
The footpaths on Rathmines Road would have to be narrowed to make room for one bus lane and one traffic lane in each direction. An alternative would be to divert outbound traffic via Ranelagh and make Rathmines Road one-way for general traffic, in addition to providing two bus lanes.
Further details, proposed plans/maps and details on how to input into the consultation process (which runs until the end of September) are available at https://www.busconnects.ie/

26th February, 2017 Recycling Bins
Recycling bins on Wainsfort Road are regularly being blown over, causing unsightly litter to be scattered onto the street and into private gardens. Bins are far less likely to be blown over if the handles of the bin face the roundabout at the top of Wainsfort Road. For those in other areas whose bins are also being blown over, this is less likely to happen if the handles are turned to face the direction of the wind. All residents are urged to do what they can to keep our area litter free
